Queenstown has long been the choice of holiday destination for South Island New Zealander's. With a driving time of just 2½ hours from
Invercargill and 3½ hours from Dunedin, those living in the Southland and Otago provinces can easily spend the weekend in Queenstown.
Many of Queenstown's houses are holiday homes. More recently some holiday homes are owned from further away.
Queenstown airport has direct flights from Christchurch, Wellington, and Auckland in New Zealand and Melbourne, Sydney and the Gold Coast in Australia.
With direct flights from Auckland taking less than 2 hours and direct flights from Australia taking around 4 hours; many more people are making Queenstown their choice of second home.
Many holiday homes are used less often and are available to rent for most of the year. Some owners enjoy the summer and let out their homes for the
ski season, and others only use the homes in the New Zealand school holidays.
